How to Be Your Own, Best Motivational Coach
Jennifer Harrison | My Mind
It’s 8 am on Monday, do you know where your motivation is? While a motivational coach can be inspiring, how about relying on your own sweet self? Here are six ways to do just that:
Write It Down
Pen a love letter to your life. Write down all the things that are going right, from the fact that your car starts to having functioning lungs. Next, write about a specific positive event that has occurred in your life. One study found that writing about a happy memory improved people’s moods. What’s more motivating than a good mood and gratitude?
Yoga can help you get in touch with your body and soul. This ancient exercise taps into what is going on in the inside, allowing you to pause and reflect on what makes you, you. Acknowledging your uniqueness can be motivating in itself.
Meditate to Motivate
Commit to a meditation moment before you start each day. Visualize what your goals are for the next 24 hours or even life goals. Motivation comes from having a crystal clear picture of what you want out of life. Seeing is believing.
Activities such as painting, crafts, playing a musical instrument, singing, dancing, or pursuing an non-work interest your choice can stimulate the creative side of your brain. Speaking of the brain, doing something you love activates brain areas that help you feel good about life. Feeling good about life is fuel for more motivation.
Ponder Your Pictures
Give thanks to those near and dear. Go through your albums or your photo stream on your smart phone and say thank you to the people in your life, including those who have played a role in your life, positive or negative. You can acknowledge your past and move on to the future, while being thankful for lessons learned along the way. Gratitude increases happiness and happiness in turn can motivate you in all aspects of your life.
Dive Into A Book
Still seeking some extra motivational mojo? Look to books. Self-help books can help you with everything from fear to food and may be the extra push you need in the motivation department. Books bring the experts to you, and while you may not be able to schedule an appointment with that famous registered dietitian, you can read her book and glean to same motivational message.
Motivate yourself with these simple but effective lifestyle adjustments and realize the best coach can come from within.
